How Patients in Pakistan Actually Search for a Doctor Online

Patients rarely start with a hospital's directory. They open Google, type a name, a specialty, or a city, and decide within minutes — often before they have spoken to anyone. Here is what that search actually looks like, in order.

1. They search the doctor's name

If a patient already has a name — from a referral, a relative, a signboard — the first search is that name. What should appear: a page stating the doctor's specialty, qualifications, and where they currently practise. What usually appears instead: an outdated hospital staff listing, or nothing at all.

2. They search "[specialty] in [city]"

Once the name search comes up thin, or if the patient has no name to start with, the next query is generic: "cardiologist in Islamabad," "dermatologist in Lahore." This is where most doctors lose the patient entirely — the results are dominated by aggregator sites and paid directory listings, not by the doctors themselves.

3. They widen to the province or "best in Pakistan"

For anything beyond routine care — a specialist opinion, a second opinion, a procedure — patients search wider: "best oncologist in Punjab," "best orthopedic surgeon in Pakistan." Very few individual doctors show up here. The doctors who do are usually the ones with a website structured around their specialty rather than a generic hospital bio.

4. Overseas Pakistanis search differently

A significant and growing segment: relatives abroad researching a doctor for a parent back home. These searches tend to be more specific and more skeptical — they read further, check for credentials, and look for a reason to trust a name they cannot verify in person.

What this means practically

None of these four searches are solved by being a good doctor. They are solved by having a page that Google can index, that states your specialty in plain language, and that is linked to a correctly filled Google Business Profile. A hospital staff page does not do this reliably — it belongs to the hospital, gets deprioritized in search results behind directories, and disappears the day you change hospitals.

If you want to see where you personally stand across these four searches, the free visibility audit runs all four with your actual name and sends you the results — whether or not you go any further.
